Soft tissue grafting is used to thicken the gum around implants or natural teeth when it has been lost or receded. The graft tissue may be taken from the palate (autogenous graft) or alternatively we will use a soft tissue grafting product called “Alloderm”. Alloderm is an acellular dermal matrix (allograft) – treated human skin. There are pros and cons for both soft tissue graft types and the choice of which one to use is decided upon after considering all the requirements of the graft.
